20.12Nemacka

The Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection, Rodoljub Sabic, received the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Serbia, Axel Dittman, today and had a long discussion with him.

The main topic of the discussion was the European integration process of the Republic of Serbia, in particular, problems encountered by Serbia in the planning and achieving of the objectives of the Action Plan for Chapter 23.

The Ambassador has shown particular interest in the Commissioner’s position on the establishment of the new legislative framework in the areas of human rights protected by the Commissioner, especially in the issues in the adoption of the new Law on Personal Data Protection.

Following five years of failure of the previous activities of the competent authorities to yield the desired and necessary results, the Commissioner reminded that he had tried to provide the greatest possible assistance in the preparation of the new Law on Personal Data Protection, unfortunately without any effects since there was no readiness to accept this assistance.

The attitude of the executive and the legislative towards the Commissioner’s institution in the field of personal data protection was also discussed, the annual report submitted by the Commissioner to the National Assembly and the significance of the possible effects of that report. The Ambassador emphasized the importance of the Commissioner's work as an independent institution in the areas of freedom of access to information and personal data protection and expressed his country's readiness to support further development and strengthening of the institution.
