The online medium "Balkan Insight", which brings together investigative journalists of all Western Balkan countries - Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Romania, Serbia, Croatia, Montenegro, in the Balkan Investigative Reporting Network (BIRN) has included the Commissioner in this year's list "Heroes of the Balkans - people who saved 2017"- the people who "were brave and acted selflessly in tough times, when no one else was brave enough to do so."

Commissioner Rodoljub Sabic was chosen for his work on transparency of authorities and assistance to the media in their work. Dragana Jankovic, known as ‘’Aleksa’s mom’’, was also included in the list of persons from Serbia, for her campaigning to protect children from peer violence.

The chosen heroes also include Bosniak students who said "no" to segregation of children in schools, the Croatian priest Tvrtko Barun for providing selfless assistance to refugees, migrants and asylum seekers, as well as Albanian army and police forces who saved individuals from areas affected by severe floods, regardless of the risks, the Romanians Vlad Voiculescu and Melania Medeleanu who founded the Magic Home and MagiCamp for children with cancer and their parents.
