COMMISSIONER
FOR INFORMATION OF PUBLIC IMPORTANCE AND PERSONAL DATA PROTECTION

03.12.2008.The Ombudsman, the Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection and the Anti-Corruption Agency are appealing to all participants in the election campaign to respect regulations both in letter and spirit and to refrain from any action which directly or indirectly jeopardize the true freedom of the citizens of exercising their electoral right and election-related rights.

Three independent control authorities in particular indicate that during the election campaign it is not allowed to use public services and resources, nor to satisfy health and social needs of the citizens. There is no place for aggressiveness in "door to door" campaigning that people perceive as athreat and it is especially forbidden to record the citizens without their explicit and written consent. Election activities in schools, kindergartens, playgrounds and similar places with children are not allowed and highly improper.

Although the control authorities, within their powers, act on individual complaints filed by citizens, but also ex-officio, to protect and improve the achieved level of political rights, electoral competitors are necessary to establish a higher degree of self-control and respect the citizens' right to the true freedom of political choice.
