Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection, Rodoljub Sabic has today, in the letters sent to the Chairmen of the Association of Journalists of Serbia (Udruzenje novinara Srbije  - UNS), Independent Association of Journalists of Serbia (Nezavisno udruzenje novinara Srbije – NUNS) and of Independent Association of Journalists of Vojvodina (Nezavisno drustvo novinara Vojvodine – NDNV), congratulated the 3^rd May, the World Media Freedom Day, to the journalists in Serbia. The Commissioner has sent to the journalists the best wishes for success in work and confirmed readiness and obligation to help them in achieving their important social function. Stressing the big importance of journalists and media in a democratic society, the Commissioner has evaluated that it is necessary for the state to do many more things in the plan for creating preconditions for exercising that role.

In relation to that, the Commissioner, Rodoljub Sabic, also stated the following:

Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection Rodoljub Sabic has, based on information that the Ministry for State Administration and Local Self Government has initiated a larger number of infringement procedures against persons responsible for infringing the Law on Free Access to Information, evaluated that it is one long expected, useful and logical action which shall contribute to better implementation of the Law.

In relation to that the Commissioner, Rodoljub Sabic has also stated the following:

The Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection, Rodoljub Sabic, evaluates as very important readiness of EU Delegation to render financial, logistics and expert assistance to the Commissioner’s activities directed towards improving status in the field of personal data protection. Evaluating that this field is quite important both from the standpoint of human rights and as a subject of serious attention of the EU in the context of harmonizing our legal status with the EU standards, the Commissioner stressed that we should achieve results on that plan much more quickly than we had so far.

In relation to that, the Commissioner, Rodoljub Sabic, also said the following:

Rodoljub Sabic, Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection, said that much more attention should be paid to personal data protection at all levels. Two very important and large-scale forthcoming government activities (census and elections for national councils of ethnic minorities) seem like a good occasion to remind that Serbia still does not have a completed personal data protection system, not even on the normative level. In this context, the Commissioner emphasized that it is crucial that the Government passes the Decree on Safeguards for Particularly Sensitive Personal Data and warned that the deadline for passing of that Decree expired more than a year ago.
