COMMISSIONER
FOR INFORMATION OF PUBLIC IMPORTANCE AND PERSONAL DATA PROTECTION

Expired

In his letter addressed to Chairmen of Managing Boards and Managers of Public Enterprises at the level of the Republic and Autonomous Province, The Commissioner for Information of Public Importance has warned liable officers of failures in carrying out the commitments the public enterprises have, pursuant to the Law on Free Access to Information of Public Importance.

On that occasion, the Commissioner Rodoljub Sabic said:
"Public enterprises, which have public powers regarding the obligations, have been equated with government bodies under this Law. However, all those enterprises, without any exception, have failed to fulfil their obligations of submitting reports on application of the Law, and to produce and publish Information Booklets on their work.
Failing to carry out statutory obligations should not be tolerated ever, therefore, not even in this case. Most of public enterprises, in addition to public powers, dispose also of  large state assets. Therefore the access of the public to information on their work is of a multiple importance, including, of course, the struggle with corruption.
In letters I sent, I have warned responsible persons and asked for explanations, expecting certain effects. If such effects fail to be produced, the right as well as the duty of the Commissioner is to render decisions, thus formally ordering the fulfilment of certain obligations. Of course, if need may be, the providing of enforcement of such decisions pursuant to the Law  falls within the competence of the Government of Serbia".
