The Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection has submitted to the Ministry of Justice the opinion on the Draft Law on Personal Data Protection subject to public consultation, which is available on the Ministry's webpage.

According to the Commissioner, in general, the Draft Law is far below the expected and necessary level and numerous objections may and must be voiced on its subject matter, contents, methodologies, and even elementary nomotechnique.

The Commissioner Rodoljub Sabic has also stated the following regarding only some of them:

The Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection informs the public that it has launched the investigation against the Ministry of Interior (MoI) and the Belgrade City Administration after the media published the news about the mounting of dozens of cameras on the streets of Belgrade, whose user is unknown.

It has already been ascertained in direct communication with the representatives of the Ministry of Interior that the MoI is not behind the mounting of these cameras, and the investigation against the Ministry has been launched practically only to obtain a formal confirmation of the said fact.

The Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection received a letter from the Ministry of Interior (MoI) informing him that all police departments had formed commissions which erased (destroyed by burning) personal data processed without legal grounds in security sector files, in the period 28 November 2017 - 07 December 2017, and that the Ministry thus fully complied with the Commissioner’s warning.

The Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection estimates that the part of the reply of the Prime Minister of the Serbian Government to the request of the Media Freedom Group that the Government ensures the enforcement of Commissioner's decisions, and that, it handles the requests for access to information in the manner prescribed by the Law on Free Access to Information of Public Importance (LFAIPI), is inconsistent with relevant legal and actual facts, and therefore inadequate in terms of the substance of the problem.
