Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection Rodoljub Sabic received the Serbian Prime Minister, the Minister of Internal Affairs and a group of their associates. They addressed the outstanding issues regarding the implementation of the Law on Free Access to Information of public Importance and the Law on Personal Data Protection, as well as the issue of amendments to the CoE Convention on Access to Official Documents.

In this context, Commissioner Rodoljub Sabic said:

Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection Rodoljub Sabic said that, given the specific circumstances in Serbia, consistent implementation of the Law on Free Access to Information of Public Importance, including accountability for violation of the public's rights, was becoming increasingly important.

The Commissioner recalled that the many years during which virtually no one was held to account for any violation of the Law on Free Access to Information – as he had warned time and again – inevitably had an adverse effect on any efforts made to establish an accountable administration and fight corruption, crime and abuse.

Noting that issues concerning access to information relating to the operations of those entities that have access to large amounts of public assets and money, namely state-owned and public enterprises, can be seen as rather telling examples of the general state of affairs, Commissioner Rodoljub Sabic also said the following:

The Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection welcomes the resolution of the Conference of Cofounders of the "Serbian National Internet Domain Registry" Foundation (RNIDS), which amended the General Terms and Conditions for the Registration of National Internet Domain Names, allowing for registration of the domain names .RS and .СРБ without mandatory indication of the registrant's unique personal identification number starting from 19 October 2015.

In that regard, Commissioner Rodoljub Sabic said:

The Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection said the statements made by the Economy's Minister , Željko Sertić, in the RTV's TV show "Right Angle", broadcasted by several other media, in the part related to problem of denying the public the opportunity to see the Contract on performing management and consulting services in the "Steel plant Smederevo", are arbitrary, incorrect and even insulting, from the point of view of the Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Data protection, and of the employees of this institution.
