The Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection filed a request for initiating misdemeanor proceedings with the Magistrate's Court in Belgrade against the public utility company Infostan and Generali osiguranje Srbija a.d.o., as well as against the persons responsible, the directors of both companies.

The Commissioner filed the request for initiating misdemeanor proceedings regarding the case in which the PUC Infostan used a collection of personal data of its customers with the aim of including the amount not due for home insurance in the delivered bill for utility services. Such an action constitutes the case of unauthorized processing of personal data, i.e. processing without legal grounds or without the consent of the person whose data is used, which is an offense under Article 57 of the Law on Personal Data Protection.

The Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection submitted his opinion and motion to amend the Draft Law on Investment to four committees of the National Assembly.

The Commissioner also turned to the Ombudsman with the motion to amend the draft.

Stating that the Draft Law on Investment, both regarding free access to information and personal data protection, contains a number of provisions that are impermissibly vague, confusing, contradictory and unconstitutional, the adoption of which would seriously threaten the existing and the guaranteed level of rights, Commissioner Rodoljub Sabic added the following:

Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs of Great Britain, Philip Hammond, met today in Belgrade with the Commissioner for Information of Public Importance Rodoljub Sabic, the Ombudsman Sasa Jankovic and the Commissioner for Protection of Equality Brankica Jankovic. At the meeting, held at the British Embassy, ​​they discussed the Action Plan for Chapter 23, primarily regarding the progress in the field of human rights in the context of European integration of Serbia, as well as the rule of law. The meeting was, among others, attended by representatives of civil society organizations in Serbia.

The Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection estimates that the recently issued ruling by the European Court of Justice that established that the "Safe Harbour" agreement (on the basis of which personal data had been transferred to the USA without particular formalities and consent) between the EU and the USA is invalid, represents one of the most important precedents in hitherto international practice concerning personal data protection.

Emphasizing that this ruling by the European Court of Justice is of great significance for us as well, albeit Serbia is not a member of the EU, the commissioner Rodoljub Sabic has stated the following:
