German Federal Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information was organizing a workshop on Free Access to Information of Public Importance from May 15 to 17, 2023, in Berlin. Participants in this gathering were representatives of 15 independent authorities that protect Access to Information of Public Importance, along with a representative of the European Ombudsman. The main topics of the meeting were Access to Environmental Information and a proactive way of publishing information. Participants discussed how to exercise the right to Access Environmental Information, referring to cases from the practice, and how to improve proactive transparency and overcome work challenges.

Also, a special discussion was brought up about the relationship between the right to Access Information and Personal Data Protection, as well as the abuse of these two rights. The representatives of the Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection were Slavoljupka Pavlović, Acting Assistant Secretary-General in the Sector for Complaints and Enforcement in the field of Access to Information, and Sofija Radojčić, Senior Advisor in the said sector. Slavoljupka Pavlović held a presentation on the Right to Access Environmental Information and introduced the participants to its legal framework in the Republic of Serbia, and shared the practice of the Commissioner in dealing with complaints related to environmental information.
