Both the Head of EU Delegation to Serbia Vincent Degert and European Parliament Rapporteur for Serbia Jelko Kacin have stressed the key role of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia and independent regulatory bodies in the control of executive power and ensuring compliance with civil rights. At the conference in Belgrade ''Civil Rights in Serbia: Role of the National Assembly and Independent Institutions", Degert has said that the National Assembly plays a key role in monitoring the implementation of legislation in practice and exercise of civil rights.

- It is very important to have in place the mechanisms to guarantee compliance with civil rights – said Degert. He has stressed the relevance of independent regulatory bodies in the Republic of Serbia, such as the Ombudsman and the Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection in securing the rights of citizens.
