On Friday, 31 August 2012, the Working Party on Drafting a Model Whistleblower Protection Law will hold its first meeting – the most important event in the implementation of the "Whistleblower Protection" project funded by UK and Dutch embassies.
The Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection issued a Letter of Warning to the Crime Police Academy (CPA) in Belgrade, noting that, pursuant to Article 8 paragraph 1 of the Law on Personal Data Protection (LPDP), security checks carried out in a school admission process constitute inadmissible processing of personal data.
The Commissioner for Information of Public Importance, the Ombudsman, the Journalists' Association of Serbia and the Independent Journalists' Association of Serbia objected strongly to publishing of data which enable identification of underage victims of crime and causes additional suffering for them and their families.
The Commissioner launched the website 'You have the right to know' (www.pravodaznas.rs and www.pravodaznam.rs) with the aim to educate high-school population on free access to information of public importance.
