The Commissioner for Information of Public Importance addressed the following letter to the Constitutional Issues Committee of the National Assembly of Serbia:
“I address this letter to you because I believe it is my obligation to point to your attention certain issues related to the need to implement adequate and sound constitutional guarantees that would reinforce the right of free access to information of public importance.
The Commissioner for Information of Public Importance took part in the Conference “Implementation of the Law on Free Access to Information - a year and a half later”, organized by the NGO Coalition on Free Access to Information, coordinated by the Open Society Fund and supported by EAR and the Council of Europe.
In some instances, public authorities invoke the provisions of the Law on Free Access to Information of Public Importance to deny free access to information even after the Commissioner for Information of Public Importance has passed a decision to that effect. These authorities justify their actions by stating that they have filed complaints to the Supreme Court of Serbia against the Commissioner's decisions.
Rodoljub Sabic, Commissioner for Information of Public Importance, returned from his official visit to Slovenia. During his two-day visit, the Commissioner had separate talks with Mrs. Nataša Pirc Musar, Slovenian Commissioner for Access to Public Information, Mr. Roman Repo, State Secretary for Public Administration, Mr. Vojko Kos, Director of the Information Protection and Classification Directorate, and Mr. Jernej Rovšek, Deputy Ombudsman for human rights, as well as with their associates.
The Commissioner also visited the legal partnership “Avbreht, Zajc i partneri”, specialized in protecting freedoms and rights.
