Commissioner in Priboj via Digital Expedition Continues Education of Youngest

On 21 and 22 April, the "Digital Expedition" caravan visited Priboj as their second stop this year. Representatives of the Commissioner's Office Duško Gudurić and Dragan Milovanović, in the premises of the Regional Innovation Startup Center in Priboj, held a lecture for fifth and sixth-grade elementary school students. These lectures aim to teach children about what personal data is, how they can use it safely, and who they can turn to if it is misused.

It is planned to work successively on the education of children, and the first step is the promotion of the brochure aimed at our youngest called "Personal data is our treasure, how can we protect it?", prepared by the Commissioner via the program " New Literacy" jointly implemented by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Propulsion organization, and authored by Dragan Ilic, a well-known psychologist, and journalist.

With the help of UNDP, printed versions of this brochure have been provided for all children and interested citizens who attend our lectures as part of the "Digital Expedition", whereas everyone else can download it for free in electronic format on the Commissioner's website.

This year, the Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection joined the "Digital Expedition", launched two years ago at the initiative of the Prime Minister of Serbia, Ana Brnabić. Through thematic lectures and discussions with experts from the Ministry of Information and Telecommunications, the Ministry of Labor, Employment, Veterans and Social Affairs, the Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection, and the Office for IT and eGovernment, citizens have the opportunity to learn everything about digital literacy, the importance of digital skills, safe behavior in the online world, as well as other advantages of using the Internet and digital space. Caravan trainings are intended for the broadest population, from young people and their parents to the oldest fellow citizens and civil servants, and this year they are about to visit eight more cities. On Thursday, April 20, starting at 10 a.m., in the hall of the Kruševac City Assembly, representatives of the Commissioner's Office held personal data protection training on the implementation of the Personal Data Protection Law aimed at Data Protection Officers from more than 50 public institutions in the vicinity of the city of Kruševac.

The representatives of the Office of the Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection conducted this training within the scope of the multi-donor project "Support for Strengthening Rule of Law in the Republic of Serbia"(EU for the Fight Against Corruption and for Fundamental Rights) financed by the EU and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), whereas the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) is in charge for its implementation.

The importance of personal data protection, consent for their processing, the purpose of lawful and fairly processing and transfer, as well as determining the public and legitimate interest in data processing, are just some of the topics in the main focus of public interest. The training aims to familiarize Data Protection Officers or persons designated by Data Controllers and Data Processors (if they do not have designated Data Protection Officers) with the current legal solutions (in the EU and the Republic of Serbia) and train them for proper application of the Personal Data Protection Law.

Field trainings, which are being implemented as part of project support in 15 selected local self-government units, are particularly important for raising the capacity of personal data protection. Also, at the same time and in addition to trainings in those selected units of local self-government, panel discussions on personal data protection are being organized, which primarily aim to raise awareness among the general public and inform its citizens.

Commissioner at Privacy Symposium in Venice

Commissioner Milan Marinović and Deputy Commissioner Sanja Unković are participating in the Privacy Symposium in Venice from April 17-21, 2023. The Symposium is attended by representatives of many countries, including Heads of Regulatory Bodies dealing with personal data protection, as well as representatives of international organizations and multinational companies.

On the first day of the Symposium, Commissioner Milan Marinović participated as a speaker on the panel "Strengthening cooperation between authorities dealing with personal data protection". The Symposium covers numerous topics in personal data protection among which the following stand out: The relationship between artificial intelligence and privacy, the Protection of privacy and safety of children on the Internet, and the Relationship between chatGBT, open AI, and privacy. In the informal part of the Symposium, the participants from different countries exchanged their valuable experiences in the field of personal data protection.

Through thematic lectures and discussions with experts from the Ministry of Information and Telecommunications, the Ministry of Labour, Employment, Veterans and Social Affairs, the Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection, and the Office for IT and eGovernment, the citizens of Bor had the opportunity to learn everything about digital literacy, the importance of digital skills, safe behavior in the online world, as well as other advantages of using the Internet and digital space. Caravan lectures are aimed at the broadest population, from young people and their parents to the oldest fellow citizens and civil servants. That is why they are held at three locations in each city: on the main city square, in associations and associations pensioner clubs, and local self-government units.

Commissioner Participated in Final Round Table Public Debate on Personal Data Protection Strategy Proposal

The final round table was held in the Chamber of Industry and Commerce of Serbia as part of the public debate on the proposal for the Personal Data Protection Strategy for 2023-2030. Commissioner Milan Marinović, Deputy Commissioner Sanja Unković, acting Chief of Cabinet Dragoslav Đukić, and acting Assistant Secretary-General Lela Rudić participated in the round table.

Representatives of the Cabinet of the Prime Minister and representatives of the Ministry of Justice, representatives of civil society, representatives of the legal profession, the Misdemeanor Court, Paragraf Lex, Kec Group, Telekom Serbia, Delloite, and others also took part in this public debate.

At the round table, the participants generally praised the fact that the Personal Data Protection Strategy is being adopted for the first time and supported the announcement of amendments to the Law on Personal Data Protection.
