Many citizens have brought to the attention of the Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection the fact that their personal data are processed on the websites of certain companies, which they consider unlawful because it is done without their consent or without explicit legal basis.

The issue is that those companies provide searches of individual’s data based on name and surname or unique personal identification number and process numerous data on individuals, including lawsuits in which they are a party, their title to real estate, financial lease, pledge and various other data.

The Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection received today a visit from the Drug Policy Network South East Europe to discuss the Draft Law amending the Law on Psychoactive and Controlled Substances.

The Commissioner told the representatives of the Network that he shared their view it was necessary to obtain input from as many stakeholders in the professional community and the civil sector as possible to ensure that the legislative provisions in this sensitive and important field are sound and proper, noting that the way in which the public hearing on the Draft Law and its timing (26 December – 20 January) had not been conductive to this.

To ensure the public has access to impartial information, the Commissioner’s Office has made the letter sent by the Commissioner to the Minister of Health this morning publicly available.

The Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection reiterated today his opinion that the situation regarding the Integrated Health Information System (IHIS), i.e. the “My Doctor” portal, in terms of personal data protection is worrying and could potentially have immensurable harmful consequences.
