The Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection finds the behaviour of Speaker of the National Assembly Maja Gojković during yesterday’s debate of amendments to the Law on the Budget unworthy of the office she holds and damaging to the very institution of the National Assembly.
In this context, Commissioner Rodoljub Šabić said:
The Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection has passed a decision by which he ordered the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade to provide a journalist of “Insajder produkcija” of Belgrade with a copy of an official note which contains a statement of reasons for the decision not to investigate the fall of a military helicopter near Belgrade on 13 March 2015.
The Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection has completed an inspection of compliance with the Law on Personal Data Protection (LPDP) at the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) in connection with the online posting of data of an underage health insurance beneficiary from the Fund’s records by member of NHIF’s Management Board Marjan Rističević. In connection with this, the Commissioner has issued a relevant Letter of Warning.
The inspection found irregularities in the actions undertaken by the NHIF when processing the insurance beneficiary’s personal data, both in terms of making personal data from the central records available to a member of the Management Board without proper legal grounds and in terms of failure to put in place the required technical, human resources and organizational measures to protect personal data, in compliance with the duty provided for in Article 47 of the LPDP.
The Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection appealed yesterday to the Government, as a proponent, and to the MPs to once again, in the procedure of adopting the Law, with due diligence and responsibly evaluate the justification of adopting the proposed legal solutions, opting for those that can achieve the desired objectives in the manner least invasive regarding the citizens’ privacy, and minimally risky regarding their personal data.
