In respect of the publicly expressed doubts of citizens and media, that the political parties, during the election campaigns, are illegally using the personal data of citizens, including those related to specific categories of citizens (beneficiaries of social assistance, pensioners, family members with disabilities), the Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection reminds once again all the participants in the election campaign of their duty to comply with the regulations related to personal data of citizens.

The procession of the above mentioned and other personal data of citizens, without legal permissions and without consent of the citizens, is illegal and punishable under the law. Similar events occurred also during previous elections and the Commissioner has warned of them and reacted according to his authorizations, including the submission of the application to initiate the proceeding against the responsible representatives of the government, i.e. political parties.

The Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data protection will today be solemnly awarded with the special recognition of the Informatics Association of Serbia - "Plaque for extraordinary contribution to the field of informatics in 2016".

This recognition was awarded for innovative application of IKT in the business environment, namely for the Open Data Portal of the Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data protection.

The Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection has submitted a report on Implementation of the Law on Free Access to Information of Public Importance and Law on Personal Data Protection to the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia for the year 2015. The report has been submitted to the President of the Republic, the Ombudsman and the Government of the Republic of Serbia. It has also been posted on the web presentation of the Commissioner.

With regard to the report, the Commissioner, Rodoljub Saric, has stated the following:

The Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection, on the occasion of a large number of journalists addressing him, reminds that the authorities are obliged to observe the fundamental principles of the Law on Personal Data Protection – appropriateness and proportionality, with regard to the accreditation of journalists for attending particular events or press conferences.

Also, in cases when and if, for any safety or other issue, the journalist ID issued by the association of journalists is not sufficient, the requirements for personal data or documents disclosure must adhere to the appropriateness and proportionality of personal data processing.
