The Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection considers that the public announcement made by the City of Novi Sad, which calls on the Commissioner to "act as is becoming of his position and truly protect the interests of all citizens of Serbia" and imputes that the Commissioner had caused harm to Novi Sad by providing false information, beggars belief and constitutes a thinly-veiled attempt at misleading the public.

In a letter sent to the Ministry of Public Administration and Local Self-Government, the Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection demanded of that Ministry, as the authority in charge of enforcing the Law on Free Access to Information of Public Importance and the Law on Local Self-Government, to conduct inspections of 11 local self-governments and to undertake other actions required under the law, including the initiation of relevant procedures to determine liability for violations of the law.

The Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection has ended an inspection of compliance with the Law on Personal Data Protection by the city municipality of Obrenovac. The inspection was prompted by a statement made by the president of the municipality in an interview with the "Insajder" website, namely that a foreign company, as a prospective investor, had had access to 55,000 medical records of citizens and was allowed to analyse the data contained in those records, which are identified as particularly sensitive under the law.

The Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection sent a request to the Serbian Government today, asking it to comply with its duties under Article 28 paragraph 4 of the Law on Free Access to Information of Public Importance and enforce the decision passed by the Commissioner in the procedure pursuant to a complaint filed against the Serbian Export Credit and Insurance Agency in which he ordered the requested information of public importance to be provided.
